SHAWN CONLIN (Superintendent): “ We figured this was a great project to try it on, due to the fact of the warranty, where if it cracks, dents, dings, whatever – (NO-COAT®) guarantees that that is not going to happen.
We notice a savings in the mesh tape, by far, and the glue. Glue’s expensive, mesh tape is expensive. We don’t have to staple it. We don’t have to do any of those steps.
It’s definitely a lot shallower, so that leads us to believe that we’re going to save a lot of mud.
The guys putting it on have kind of got a system. They figured out what works for them, how many guys…they got one guy cutting, one guy running it through the slot box, and a guy rolling it.
This project in particular has over 300 condo units. Obviously after us, we’ve got trim guys coming, carpet guys, tile guys. Usually, when you’re dealing with bullnose and metal studs, the trim guy is shooting his trim in, and a lot of the nails have a tendency to ricochet at those corners. Therefore, with vinyl, it splits up the side – not all the time – but a lot of the time.
Also, those guys beat the crap out of the corners. With metal (bead), it dings, dents. The vinyl, like I said, it cracks. That could cost us thousands and thousands of dollars, just from other people’s neglect, which usually happens. Carpet guys ding your stuff, trim guys ding your stuff and crack it – that’s inevitable. But with this, with this kind of warranty, that sold us from the get-go.”
